HeatShield Chimney Repair Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Repair in Westchester County: What to Know First

We repair HeatShield chimney systems throughout Westchester County, and most jobs are done in a single visit once we’ve had a look. HeatShield is a ceramic coating applied inside existing flues, and when it starts failing, the fix is usually a resurfacing job or a targeted patch, not a full rebuild. We’re an independent HeatShield service provider, which means we’ll tell you straight whether the coating is actually the problem or whether the issue is the masonry around it. Call (914) 537-6479 and we’ll come take a look.

This page is for homeowners whose chimney was treated with HeatShield and now has cracked coating, water coming through, spalling brick, or a sweep who flagged something on camera. If you’re in Yonkers, White Plains, Mount Kisco, Peekskill, or anywhere else in the county, this is what we see and how we handle it.

How HeatShield Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

HeatShield’s Cerfractory foam is a good product, but it’s not indestructible, and Westchester County weather works against it. Freeze-thaw cycles, acidic flue gases, and plain old age all take a toll. Here are the failure modes we see on HeatShield jobs, along with what we do about them.

  • Blistering and delamination from trapped moisture. This shows up most on the HeatShield original formula applied before 2010. Water gets behind the coating through a cracked crown, freezes, and pushes the material off the flue wall. The fix is removing the loose material, addressing the water entry point first, then resurfacing. We don’t coat over a leak.
  • Hairline cracking at mortar joints in the underlying flue. HeatShield follows the contour of what’s beneath it. When mortar settles or shifts, the coating cracks along the same line. On older stone chimneys up near Teatown Lake Reservation, this is the most common thing we find. Crack repair starts with stabilizing the joint, then filling and recoating the affected section.
  • Pinholes and surface erosion from acidic condensate. Gas and oil flues run cooler, which means more condensation, which means acid eating at the surface. HeatShield’s newer lines hold up better, but nothing’s immune. We patch with the appropriate HeatShield repair mix and, where it makes sense, address the draft issue that’s causing the condensation in the first place.
  • Flashing-seal failure at the roofline. This isn’t a coating problem, but it gets blamed on HeatShield all the time. Water runs down the outside of the chimney, soaks the brick, and the coating gets blamed for what’s really a flashing and masonry issue. We fix the flashing and any spalled brick before touching the coating, otherwise you’ll be calling us again next spring.
  • Improper original installation showing through. HeatShield over a poorly prepped flue doesn’t bond correctly, and we see this often enough to mention it. The coating peels in sheets, and the fireclay beneath was never cleaned properly. We remove the failed section, prep the surface the right way, and reapply. It takes longer, but it actually stays put.

Our HeatShield Chimney Repair Process

  1. 1
You call, and a real person answers. Wendell or someone from the crew picks up. We ask what you’re seeing, pull up your address, and give you an arrival window before hanging up.
  2. 2
We inspect with a camera. Every HeatShield repair starts with interior flue camera footage. You watch it. We show you the coating, the flue wall, the mortar joints. The camera footage and a plain-English verdict every time, no exceptions.
  3. 3
We walk through the findings and the options. If the HeatShield is fine and the problem is flashing or brick, we’ll say so. If the coating is failing, we explain the scope: patch versus full resurfacing, and why.
  4. 4
We make the repair with HeatShield materials. We use HeatShield repair products because they’re designed to bond with the existing coating. On jobs where the underlying liner needs work, we also work with DuraFlex and Gelco and will tell you which makes sense.
  5. 5
We test for draft and do a water check. The chimney gets a smoke test or draft reading, then a water test on any flashing or crown work. If it’s not moving air and shedding water, we’re not done.
  6. 6
We clean up and hand you the paperwork. Every job comes with the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. The number you pay was the number you were quoted before the first tool came off the truck.

What HeatShield Chimney Repair Costs in Westchester County

HeatShield repair in Westchester County runs about $650 to $1,400 for a targeted patch, and $2,500 to $5,000 for a full flue resurfacing. What moves the price is accessibility, flue height, and how much prep work is needed. A two-story chimney with a steep pitch near Croton-on-Hudson costs more than a ranch in Yorktown Heights, and scraping loose material off 150 years of flue tile adds labor.

  • Camera inspection: $0 with any repair
  • Targeted HeatShield patch: $650 to $1,400
  • Full HeatShield resurfacing: $2,500 to $5,000
  • Flashing repair alongside HeatShield work: $350 to $900
  • Spalling brick repair (per section): $400 to $1,200

We give upfront pricing before work begins, and the estimate is free to get. Call (914) 537-6479 and Wendell or his crew will give you a real number.

Why Westchester County Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for HeatShield Work

We’ve been doing chimneys in Westchester County since 1999, and we’ve been into enough flues to know when a HeatShield coating is the issue and when it isn’t. Wendell Pike owns the company and still runs jobs himself. The sweep who shows up at your door is the same person who will answer when you call back in three months because something doesn’t feel right, and that’s the whole point of the 90-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, one call brings the crew back, no charge. We also install DuraFlex and Gelco liners, so when HeatShield isn’t the answer, we’re not trying to sell it to you anyway. There’s no trip charge inside Westchester County, and if a national outfit gave you a written estimate, we’ll give you a free second opinion on it.
